A Copyright Cop In Every Zune

As if the Zune wasn’t already crippled and unpopular enough, now comes a story indicating that Microsoft may build a ‘Copyright Cop’ into every Zune. A future update of the software for Microsoft’s portable media player will likely include a ‘feature’ that will block unauthorized copies of copyrighted videos from being played on it. The president of digital distribution for NBC, J. B. Perrette, said the plan is to create ‘filtering technology that allows for playback of legitimately purchased content versus non-legitimately purchased content.’ Of course there’s no way to tell legitimate content that you create from ‘non-legitimate’ content, so this looks like just another nail in the coffin if the Zune.

MacBook AirHead: why Apple’s new laptop is basically useless

This post comes from CrunchGear (http://www.crunchgear.com/(…)is-basically-useless/)

It has more than 140 comments. We just copy/paste a few to show you how the CommenTag plugin can enhance the discussion and make it much more readable.

The interesting thing here is that even the author of this post (Devin Coldewey) admitted that probably nobody reads comments:

Edit: Apparently I’ve stirred up the hive, so I guess I need to address this one point more clearly. (I already did in a comment but who reads ‘em?)”

Vista is Slower, But XP Is Still Dying

This post comes from Slashdot (http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/04/05/2217243&from=rss) where it has  388 comments. We just copy/pasted a few of them here to show you how the CommenTag plugin works, enhancing the discussion and making it much more readable.

Here is the content of the original post. The writer of this post is Zonk, a regular participant on Slashdot discussions.

An anonymous reader writes “Though the Redmond software giant may be extending the lifetime of XP on low-end laptops, the end is nigh for the aging OS. That extension makes perfect sense, as recent studies have shown XP is far faster than Vista across a number of platforms. Still, Microsoft is ’sticking to its guns’ when it comes to drop-dates for most other uses of the XP operating system. ‘There are several dates that apply, but the one you’re probably thinking of is the June 30 deadline that Dix referred to. That’s the last day when large computer makers — the Dells, HPs and Lenovos of the world — will be allowed to preinstall Windows XP on new PCs. It also marks the official end of XP as a retail product.’”
